Activities in LEAP Preschool

The University of Maryland Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences is pleased to offer a comprehensive speech and language enrichment program for young children. This program offers a comprehensive preschool curriculum with an emphasis on communication development and individualized speech and language therapy. The program is located within the Hearing and Speech Clinic on the College Park campus

LEAP Mission

The Language-Learning Early-Advantage Program (LEAP) is an individualized preschool program with a strong classroom LEAP Circlelanguage-based focus. LEAP's mission is threefold:

  1. to train speech-language pathology graduate and undergraduate students;
  2. to provide treatment to preschool-age children between the ages of 3 and 5 years who demonstrate speech and/or language delays in the absence of other handicapping conditions;
  3. and to conduct research.


Services Provided by Students

LEAP StudnetServices are provided by students who are working towards their Master's degree in speech-language pathology. These students are closely supervised by experienced speech-language pathologists who are faculty members of the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences and certified by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).


School Calendar and Fees

LEAP operates from mid-September through mid-December (fall session) and early February through mid-May (spring session), approximately 12 weeks per session. Children are placed in either the morning (9am-12:15pm) or afternoon session (1:00pm-4:15 pm) on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. A 5 ½ week summer session operates from early June through mid-July. Current fees follow: 
  • Summer 2015:  $700.00
  • Fall 2015 / Spring 2016 School Year:  $3,600.00
