The University of Maryland Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences is pleased to offer a comprehensive speech and language enrichment program for young children. This program offers a comprehensive preschool curriculum with an emphasis on communication development and individualized speech and language therapy. The program is located within the Hearing and Speech Clinic on the College Park campus.
The Language-Learning Early-Advantage Program (LEAP) is an individualized preschool program with a strong classroom language-based focus. LEAP's mission is threefold:
- to train speech-language pathology graduate and undergraduate students;
- to provide treatment to preschool-age children between the ages of 3 and 5 years who demonstrate speech and/or language delays in the absence of other handicapping conditions;
- and to conduct research.
Services Provided by Students
Services are provided by students who are working towards their Master's degree in speech-language pathology. These students are closely supervised by experienced speech-language pathologists who are faculty members of the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences and certified by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).
