Abstract:
In this research project, we seek to determine which cognitive factors may act as predictors for language processing in typically developing elementary and middle school-aged children listening to either vocoded or unaltered speech in conditions of quiet and noise. As such, we will investigate participants' baseline performance on measures of verbal working memory, visuo-spatial working memory and sustained attention. We will also study participants' phonological awareness and vocabulary levels in relation to their outcomes on the language processing tasks. We will also collect adult normative data by investigating participants' baseline performance on measures of working memory and sustained attention. Age appropriate measures will be used in all cases.
