Want to host an event and provide ASHA CEU's to participants? Find out how UMD's HESP Department can help offer these to SLPs and Audiologists!

Our HESP department is proud to be an approved provider of ASHA Continuing Education Units (CEUs). We offer CEUs to eligible participants who complete designated workshops, training, or events that meet ASHA's standards for professional development. Event participants must complete all required steps, such as full attendance, assessment of learner outcomes, and submission of evaluation forms, to receive credit.

Please review documents below to know steps required to offer CEUs at your next event!

Email us at hesp_ceu [at] umd.edu with required materials to start the process of providing ASHA CEUs at your event!

Important Steps for Holding an Event:

  • All materials and correct advertisements must be submitted a MINIMUM of 45 days before the event. Oftentimes, materials and advertisements need to be adjusted, so please consider submitting your materials before the minimum to ensure all aspects are completed properly.

  • What kind of event is it? Sponsor or Co-Sponsor?

    • Determining whether the Course Offering(s) is a Cooperative or a Joint Providership:
      • A Cooperative Offering is when one ASHA Approved CE Provider joins with another organization or entitiy that is not an ASHA Approved CE Provider to plan, deliver, and evaluate a continuing education course offering(s) for ASHA CEUs.
        • ASHA CE assesses a fee for cooperative offerings, and the CE Provider Portal calculates the fee based on the number of cooperative offerings entered.
      • A Joint Providership Offering is when two or more ASHA Approved CE Providers team up to plan, deliver, and evaluate continuing education course offering(s).
        • One of the ASHA Approved CE Providers must take responsibility for the registration and reporting of the course offering(s) to ASHA.
  • How many CEUs will be offered?

    • To determine this, you must have a time-ordered agenda with course content.
    • You must submit this agenda to us or include it on your promotional materials/flyers or both (preferred)
    • Hours are only for educational activities (e.g., not lunch, breaks, or social activities)
    • Hours:
      • One hour = .1 CE
      • Half hour = .05 CE
      • We can give half hours but all numbers are rounded down to whole or half hours
    • This number MUST BE INCLUDED in all advertising for the event and inserted into the UMD ASHA CE Logo (aka brand block)
    • We will give you this block to post after your course is approved.
    • You will often advertise before we receive the formal approval from ASHA, so recommended wording is "Application has been made to offer this activity for X ASHA CE (Y level, Z area)"
  • Provide Information about the Content and Speakers

    • Need to know: Who are the speakers? (Credentials and affiliations, and disclosures)
    • Disclosures should be on the flyer you submit to us
      • Both financial and non-financial disclosures need to be made available to attendees
      • It must be noted if a speaker will endorse a single product or approach
      • ASHA Sample Disclosure Statements
  • Provide a Contact Person and Contact Information

    • Should be on promotional materials
  • Provide Learning Outcomes

  • Provide Cost of Event

  • Provide Us With a Copy of Your Promotional Materials With All of This Information

    • Promotional Flyer Example
    • We will provide an edited UMD ASHA Brand Block to insert onto materials to advertise that the event is compliant with ASHA CE Regulations
    • Promotional Materials should be in Word Document format when submitted
  • Extra Information:

    • Our CE Team will provide you with a form for participants to fill out to show they are attended are eligible for the CEUs.
    • A participant feedback form, that includes learner self-apprasals (e.g., "Two things I learned from this session are ..." and evaluation of the event is highly encouraged, but not required.
    • If any content is changed, please let the CEU Coordinator know immediately.
    • If you are planning on holding an event again:
      • If an event stays the same, it is an additional OFFERING
        • It must kep the CEU calculation the same
      • If you are a Co-Op, the additional offering Co-Op fee is required to pay to ASHA
        • Must still submit required materials 45 days in advance of the event
