About LEAP Preschool
LEAP's Mission
The Language-Learning Early-Advantage Program (LEAP) is an individualized preschool program with a strong classroom language-based focus. LEAP's mission is threefold:
- to train speech-language pathology graduate and undergraduate students;
- to provide treatment to preschool-age children between the ages of 3 and 5 years who demonstrate speech and/or language delays in the absence of other handicapping conditions;
- and to conduct research.
Services Provided by Students
Services are provided by students who are working towards their Master's degree in speech-language pathology. These students are closely supervised by experienced speech-language pathologists who are faculty members of the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences and certified by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).
School Calendar and Fees
LEAP operates from mid-September through mid-December (fall session) and early February through mid-May (spring session), approximately 12 weeks per session. Children are placed in either the morning (9am-12:15pm) or afternoon session (1:00pm-4:15 pm) on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. A 5 ½ week summer session operates from early June through mid-July.
The tuition fee includes the following services:
-Initial comprehensive speech and language evaluation at time of enrollment or as deemed needed (except summer)
-Annual hearing screening and audiological monitoring as needed
-Speech-language therapy, as needed
-Ongoing feedback to parent/family regarding the communication development of the child
-Written reports and scheduled conferences to discuss each child's progress
-Thematic classroom activities and field trips uniquely designed to encourage speech-language and social-emotional growth
