Title: Bridging research and clinical practices: Functional communication assessments and interventions for autistic individuals
Speaker: Jonet Artis (UMD, HESP)
Abstract: Over the years, autism has been increasingly diagnosed across the United States. Similarly, the research on autism has expanded. Yet, there are some gaps between research and clinical practices for autistic individuals. In this talk, I will describe the studies that I have conducted to help bridge the gap between research and clinical practices. These studies focus on social communication and language assessments and interventions for autistic individuals. Specifically, I will address topics such as early identification of autism, assessments for receptive language skills, and access to interventions. Finally, I will share the future direction of my work to continue efforts to support autistic individuals with regard to their language and communication development.
