The Hearing and Speech Sciences commencement ceremony took place at 1:00pm on Friday, May 22nd, 2015 in the memorial chapel. Refreshments were served prior to the ceremony, beginning at 11:00 am. See our photo gallery and our departmental award winners below.

 

Our Commencement Speaker: Barbara Sonies

After many years of teaching and service, Dr. Barbara Sonies is retiring from our department. Throughout her career, she has received many accolades including the Honors of ASHA and has also been named as an ASHA Fellow. She founded the ASHA Dysphagia Special Interest Division and developed the original plan for Board Recognition in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders.  Dr. Sonies has Specialty Recognition in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders and is Secretary of the Specialty Recognition Board. She has published many articles and presented hundreds of seminars and workshops on Dysphagia, and she continues to mentor students and professionals in Dysphagia practice. Our department thanks her for all of her contributions over the years, and wishes her the best of luck in retirement!
