The University of Maryland Hearing and Speech Sciences department and the School of Public Health offer a dual Clinical Doctorate of Audiology (CAUD) and Masters in Public Health (MPH) graduate degree program.
About the Program
Program Objectives
- To promote public health initiatives into interested student’s Audiology training.
- To teach basic concepts of public health for mastery in professional disciplines.
- To provide unique exposure to public health community initiatives related to hearing and/or communication.
- To promote critical analysis of the literature on audiology and to contribute to the empirical knowledge base for patient care, approaches to
- rehabilitation and recommendations, and community or clinic-based care.
- To expand student exposure to concepts of health disparities and inequities.
- To promote interprofessional practice through collaborative clinical practicum and didactic training.
Program Benefits
The University of Maryland is exceptional in having top-tier programs in both public health and audiology. Without the dual-degree program, students would be able to apply to each program independently. However, they would likely need to complete each set of degree requirements sequentially and over a longer period without coordination across requirements - taking longer and incurring higher cost in order to complete. With this dual degree, students have the opportunity to complete both degrees simultaneously and potentially completing them earlier than if done separately.
