Dear Students: Welcome to the Undergraduate Program in Hearing and Speech Sciences (HESP) at the University of Maryland. Although we may be a small major in the University’s largest college, the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS), we pride ourselves in providing our undergraduate students with the very best in academic preparation for their future graduate training. |
The same faculty that have helped our Graduate Programs earn their ranking in the top 10% of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology programs in the country, are also available to our undergraduates. The HESP department offers undergraduates opportunities to work with faculty in the classroom, as research assistants, or as teaching assistants. We also offer a departmental Honors program that students may apply to even if they have not previously been in the Honors College. We pride ourselves in being an excellent teaching department. Our current faculty includes four former winners of the BSOS Outstanding Faculty Awards.
By utilizing the College Benchmark system and mandatory advising, students are carefully advised and encouraged to pursue all of the opportunities available to them. In short, the Department of Hearing and Speech cares about its students and their growth through their undergraduate experience. We look forward to having you in our classes and hope you will consider becoming a major.
