We are thrilled to celebrate Arty Gionfriddo (they/them), a Master of Speech-Language Pathology student in UMD’s HESP program, for receiving the American Speech-Language Hearing Association Graduate Student Scholarship.
Arty’s scholarship essay emphasized the importance of queer representation in speech-language pathology and the need for more diverse role models and mentors in leadership positions within clinical graduate programs. Their advocacy highlights the importance of attracting and retaining underrepresented populations in the field.
“This scholarship was especially rewarding because I applied last year and was not selected. Trying again and having my efforts recognized on the second attempt was an incredible feeling. I make it a point to apply to as many graduate scholarship opportunities as I can, which has helped with tuition and given me valuable experience in writing and preparing application materials for clinical fellowships.” – Arty Gionfriddo
Please join us in congratulating Arty on this well-deserved achievement.
