Audiology doctoral students from the Hearing and Speech Sciences department were invited to participate in the 5th Annual IPE Day sponsored by the Center for Interprofessional Education at the University of Maryland Baltimore. Pre-professional students from several disciplines including nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, medicine, dentistry, social work and audiology participated in an opening educational session as well as small-group break-out sessions comprised of a representative from each discipline. Case studies and standardized patients were used to facilitate interprofessional collaboration among the pre-professional students in each group to devise a care plan for the patient and his/her family and caregivers.
