HESP is excited to announce that we have a new full-time academic advisor, Stephanie Grissom!

Read her bio below:

Stephanie Grissom attended two universities in the University System of Maryland.  She received her Master in Public Administration from Bowie State University and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.  Stephanie is excited to serve in the educational system that gave her a strong foundation of knowledge which supported her career goals.

Stephanie believes that having a student-centered approach to advising has not only developed her professionally but personally as well.  Using approaches such as intrusive advising, has helped students from various backgrounds become active and engaged participants in their educational pursuit. This approach encourages the advisor to make the human connection between institutional processes and students’ matriculation and professional goals.

In 2017, Stephanie presented at the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Regional Conference on the subject of retention and has served on university retention, diversity and living learning committees.  Stephanie comes with six years of advising experience and is excited about her new endeavor to support undergraduates using established academic advising models and techniques
