We are beginning a major department-wide initiative in the area of traumatic brain injury and sports concussion; this includes research and clinical work to develop better ways of identifying children and young adults who have suffered a brain injury, and of assessing and supporting those individuals who do not fully recover within the expected time frame (roughly 20% of cases) to return successfully to the classroom.  We are also working to better disseminate knowledge and enhance collaborations, through creating a working group of faculty across Communication Sciences/Disorders departments in the Big 10, connecting with the CIC TBI collaboration, and developing a symposium on the topic.
